Feraga is back!

Hi Everybody!

Sorry for the downtime but I've been very busy in "real life" and this site is a one-man-job. As you can see, I've upgraded the site from Drupal 4.7 to Drupal 6.2 and imported all the old content.

Warning to other Drupal users: don't use too many modules. I found a few made the upgrade much more difficult that it should have been.

Future work:
1. Restore the custom front page.
2. Restore the navigation menus
3. Add a new book about implementing SELinux.
4. Try to restore old verbose URLs rather than node numbers.
5. Restore Forums

Offtopic: Ron Paul

Hi Everybody!

I've tried to avoid posting any off-topic discussions on this site but this time I feel it's worth it even if the message is only for a limited audience.

Over the last 50 years, we've seen a progressive eroding of our privacy and rights in the US and we've got a chance to get some of them back. Ron Paul is a dedicated supporter of Privacy and Personal Liberty. He voted against the RealID Act, and fought against the Patriot Act for years.

Court rules that man can't be forced to give up the password to his encrypted volumes.

A federal judge in Vermont has ruled that a man cannot be forced to hand over his password for a Truecrypt encrypted volume on his laptop saying that giving up the password would grant access to information that the prosecution is currently unaware of that may be used to convict him.

Your papers please.

Every once in a while you get an epiphany and realize that the world isn't quite what you thought it was.

More reasons to use proxies....

Americans should be using proxies like Tor as much as possible because a US Court has recently ruled that Federal Agents do NOT need a warrant to track what websites you visit or whom you email. They ruled that this was the equivalent of Pen Register (a device for phones that tracks who you call but not what's said during the call).

Remember, the only privacy you have left is what you are actively willing to take back and protect.

Cool Referers

Sometimes you're just glancing at the logs and a website name just jumps out at you. Well today for me, that site was Guerillartivism.net. Great name.

Apt-get install anarchism, indeed.

Well updates finally coming...

Hello all,

Sorry for the lag in posting but I warned you that I would be busy and busy is an understatement. I'm finally getting caught up at work and will have more time to work on outside projects (like this one).

I recently been considering expanding the scope of the website to be an overall repository for privacy tools for Linux and discussion. If anyone has any ideas, please feel free to comment.

New outside distraction

Hi everybody!

Just wanted to drop a note to let everyone know that I'm going to be really busy for the next few weeks and not to expect too many updates to the site.

I recently accepted a new job for a small company and while I start today, they've built up a "small" backlog of things to do. So I'm going to be busier than the proverbial woodchuck chucking wood for the foreseeable future.

That doesn't mean the site will stop development, just that it will proceed at a slower pace... unless others start contributing (hint! hint!).

Upgrading a Feraga installation.

Recently I received this email from Jeff:

I have used deb2flash many months ago to install the
system on a 1 GB usb key and have run out of space.
I'd like to move it do a 4 GB Key, what's the best
way to accomplish this?

Now I can't think of a better question to answer on our {INT blog/dave/happy_anniversary}first anniversary{/INT} and so lets give it a shot.

Happy Anniversary.

Today is our first anniversary. The first article was posted here one year ago and what a long way we've come in that time.

We've got 33 registered users, over 80 pages and had over 100,000 pages views. Its been a busy year.
